Vanilla Sky…

No, I’m not about to blog about that obscure Tom Cruise movie from 2001. I’m talking about the most delicious summer beverage. Ever.

Admittedly I can’t take credit for this brilliant concoction, the secret was shared with me from my Swedish pal, Giselle (those damn Swedes, they take over furniture design and now cocktail mixing? How dare they). But to be honest I’m not sure what I would consume in the summer if she hadn’t introduced me to the Vanilla Sky.

Don’t ask me why it’s called that, but it’s clearly a European thing. Ordering it in the US will only guarantee you a “So…you want Vanilla flavored Skyy vodka on the rocks, errrr?” No, pal, I want a Vanilla Sky, the most fabulous summer drink ever.  I’ve heard rumors that this drink has other names in the US—–Vanilla Cloud and Vanilla Slide to name a few….I can only assume this was to clear up the Skyy confusion.

Anyways, on to the recipe. I order it by saying “Vanilla vodka, sprite with lime”, but, if you want the exact concoction….

2 oz vanilla flavored vodka

6-8 oz sprite/7up

Splash of lime juice and slice of fresh lime

If you feel daring, try swapping out the sprite and using ginger-ale,  it adds a delightful twist to the original recipe.  I’ve also seen it with pineapple juice and a pineapple slice instead of lime—also a great variation. So, now that we got that settled, relax on your IKEA furniture and enjoy the 2nd best thing from Sweden.
