Skirts + Boots…

2012 January 24

I’ve decided to dust off my skirts and try to get some use out of them this winter. Loving the boots + tights + mini skirts look, are you? Seems like a fun way to get use out of some of those items that get packed away when the temperature drops—but also a great way to layer and a fun alternative to skinnies + boots. Today’s Inspiration: The Perfect Tank from Isabella Oliver ($29.40), Knit Spliced Cardigan ($49.95), Splendid Striped Mini-Skirt (from net-a-porter) ($16.00), Wallis Blue Delauney Print Scarf ($24.00), Wallis Silver Mesh Chain Necklace ($18.00), Debrha Bag ($95.00), Lancome Cosmetics Color Fever Gloss in Tangerine Petal ($26.00), Essie Nail Polish in Carry On and Glamour Purse ($8.00).

DIY: Dictionary + Canvas…

2012 January 23

We’re slowly (but surely) trying to get something creative happening in our kitchen. Our kitchen has more space than we have ever had in the past—-so we finally bought (and revamped) a buffet—Josh re-stained it and added some fancy hardware. Once we got it moved into the space I realized that we also needed some artwork. Inspired by vintage signage I covered a large canvas in pages taken out of an old dictionary, added a quote cut from stenciled letters and then sealed the entire thing with a layer of Mod Podge. So easy it’s almost embarrassing.

Warm Thoughts…

2012 January 20

It’s about that time of year! What time is that, you ask? The time of year when you have to go through your Facebook friends and remove anyone who is still in college—Spring Break season is just around the corner which means all those coeds are about to start posting about their spring break diets, spring break wardrobes and then soon after—-their regrets about posing for that photo doing a keg stand on the beaches of Panama City. For the past few years my jealousy level over these types of posts was unbearable—some combination of yearning for college and yearning for a vacation. Fortunately this year will be a bit easier—I still have tan lines from  Mexico and am just a few weeks away from a trip to Arizona…the difference here is that I plan to return from my spring break with far fewer regrets and headaches than the coeds…and with that I say: Let the Spring Break posts commence. Today’s Inspiration:  Miss Selfridge Tomato Ruffle Dress ($60.00), John Lewis Silk Scarf ($61.00), Chloe Bag in Nude ($1248.00), Juicy Couture “Couture on the Rocks” Coral Stud Earrings ($42.00), Yves Saint Laurent Lipstick in Pink Coral ($30.00), Gala Curious Friller Cuff ($126.00), a.n.a. Coral & Gold Bracelet ($12.00), Jessica Simpson Heels in Spiced Coral ($89.99), Deborah Lippman Polish in Naked & Shake your Groove Thang ($16.00 & 18.00).

Announcements…

2012 January 18

It’s been a big and busy week in the life of me…but I have a few announcements. As you’ll notice, Life’s a Journal received a slight facelift. Nothing major, but a fresh new look is always nice! Secondly, we’ve incorporated a Pin It button into the posts. You can now add any post on LAJ to your Pinterest pinboards by simply clicking “Pin It” at the bottom of each post. Any good Pinterest Addict will appreciate that. Lastly, at the end of the month I’m starting a new gig with the team at Design Seeds (read their friendly welcome here)! I’ll be managing their Social Media and Marketing…if you’re interested in following me on that adventure you can find my Seeds related tweets at DesignSeedsLove (I sign on January 27th) and you can also find us on Facebook.

Best of the Golden Globes 2012…

2012 January 16

Did you miss Last Night’s Golden Globe Awards? No fear. I’ve got the evening’s most unforgettable moments recapped for you right here….

1. Tina Fey executed a flawless FrameBomb on Amy Poehler. But really, it’s much funnier in the gif version. Okay, okay, you’re right the video really takes the cake.

2. Julianne Moore stole the show. Or rather, her earrings stole the show. The emerald stunners were by Fred Leighton.

3. Nicole Kidman got my vote for Best Dress (but it was so hard to pick, runners up included Charlize Theron, Julie Bowen, & Sophia Vergara). This picture doesn’t even do it justice, but when she went on stage to present, the fit and structure of this Versace gown were absolutely jaw dropping.

4. Natalie Portman’s hip was pregnant. Last year she was actually pregnant, but this year, just her hip. Her gown was by Lanvin.

5. Rob Lowe raised a lot of eyebrows with his very questionable spray tan. (Note to self: if ever presenting alongside the fair-skinned Julianne Moore, skip any tan or bronzer).

6. Michelle Williams left the crowd in tears following a beautiful acceptance speech after winning Best Actress for her role in My Week With Marilyn. (Her dress was Jason Wu, who has a line coming out for Target that debuts February 5th).

7. Reese Witherspoon was a scene stealer with her seemingly effortless beachy waves and sweetheart neckline (dress by Zac Posen).

Plum + Chevron…

2012 January 13

I’ve got a gigantic chevron rug for my office arriving today, so excuse me if it’s on my mind. The thing I love about chevron is that the pattern looks awesome no matter what you put it on—a rug, a picture frame, a purse, an upholstered chair, jewelry. It works on just about anything—especially this little clutch that is only $25.00 and available on Etsy. Today’s Inspiration: Annie Roll Cuff Dress ($220.80), Oasis Flare Coat ($115.00), Ferragamo’s Creation Shoe Boots ($339.00), Giles & Brother Silver-Plated Necklace ($225.00), Giles & Brother Silver-Plated Earrings ($85.00), Chevron clutch from Ocean Pearl Bags on Etsy ($25.00), Nars Lip Color in Downtown ($24.00), Essie Polish in Merino Cool($7.79).
